Rudy Giuliani jets to campaign stops using casino kingpin's plane

November 18, 2007: Rudy Giuliani is jetting around the country wooing Bible-thumping conservatives, but his plane is often provided by a king of Sin City. The Republican presidential hopeful anted up more than $122,000 last summer alone for jets traceable to casino kingpin Sheldon Adelson, whose Las Vegas Sands empire has made him the third-richest American, a Daily News review of campaign records shows.

The Pet-Crazy Jet Set

November 6, 2007: Why do the wealthy seem so crazy about their pets? I doubt the rich love their dogs and cats any more than the rest of us. It’s just that they have more money to indulge their pet fetishes. We all remember Leona and her dog Trouble. (I wonder how Trouble is faring these days?) And then there’s Paris Hilton’s Chihuahua, Tinkerbell.

Taking Your Jet Travel Private

August 14, 2007: Now, charter brokers are bringing the cost down even more by making it simpler to hire planes for single trips, called "on-demand" charters, on a pay-as-you-go basis -- no buying into an airplane or prebuying hours of flying time. Several firms are simplifying the process by collecting bids from charter companies for interested fliers and making arrangements from car service to onboard catering. At the same time, the private-jet world's two main safety rating agencies are making it possible for consumers to check charter companies and individual pilots to make sure their flight has aviation's equivalent of a Good Housekeeping seal of approval.

OneSky's Portfolio Approach

June 28, 2007: OneSky has rolled out an interesting new program that makes it easy for fractional jet owners and jet card members to travel "out of plan." The concierge-like service is called Latitude Membership. You provide the company with the details on your existing fractional or card programs, then give them a call before each flight. They'll run the analysis for you. If you own multiple plane fractions or are a member of more than one program, OneSky will recommend the most flight-appropriate selection, and the bottom line costs of each alternative. They'll separately provide a charter quote for an equivalent plane.

Of the nearly 2,700 private jets flown every day, an estimated 40% fly empty, according to OneSky. While a typical charter for eight passengers from Seattle to Las Vegas might cost $20,000, a recent flight on Empty Legs went for just over $6,000.
