August 14, 2007: Now, charter brokers are bringing the cost down even more by making it simpler to hire planes for single trips, called "on-demand" charters, on a pay-as-you-go basis -- no buying into an airplane or prebuying hours of flying time. Several firms are simplifying the process by collecting bids from charter companies for interested fliers and making arrangements from car service to onboard catering. At the same time, the private-jet world's two main safety rating agencies are making it possible for consumers to check charter companies and individual pilots to make sure their flight has aviation's equivalent of a Good Housekeeping seal of approval.

June 28, 2007: OneSky has rolled out an interesting new program that makes it easy for fractional jet owners and jet card members to travel "out of plan." The concierge-like service is called Latitude Membership. You provide the company with the details on your existing fractional or card programs, then give them a call before each flight. They'll run the analysis for you. If you own multiple plane fractions or are a member of more than one program, OneSky will recommend the most flight-appropriate selection, and the bottom line costs of each alternative. They'll separately provide a charter quote for an equivalent plane.

Virgin Group to Start Online Site for Charter Flights
June 14, 2007: OneSky CEO Greg Johnson said he welcomes the entry of a company the size of Virgin into the charter market because that helps convince fliers of the value of such online services. November 7, 2006: A new search engine, dubbed Empty Legs, lets passengers find deep discounts on typical private-jet rates by hooking them up with empty seats on jets that are already in use. Most available flights have either just delivered a customer or are en route to pick up a customer. The search engine is offered by OneSky Jets, a private jet company, at www.onesky.com. Of the nearly 2,700 private jets flown every day, an estimated 40% fly empty, according to OneSky. While a typical charter for eight passengers from Seattle to Las Vegas might cost $20,000, a recent flight on Empty Legs went for just over $6,000. A one-way first-class ticket for the same route runs close to $400.
